Introductory Psychology Open Course: Unit 13
Social Psychology
In this unit we'll consider how individual behavior is influenced by other people. This can occur from the mere presence of others, from indirect or direct attempts to influence behavior such as conformity, persuasion, or obedience, and from the relationships we form. These relationships will also include group membership, which can bias individual behavior. Being part of a group can influence how people view themselves and those around them, and this has the potential to lead to discrimination and conflict, or to cooperation and shared understandings.
