If you’re just getting started studying psychology, you may ask why this field is worth your time and energy. Why study psychology? What will studying psychology do for you and what purpose does it serve?

In my opinion, psychology is perhaps the most interesting and engaging field of study out there. I’ll admit that I’m biased, but I really do believe that learning about psychology allows anyone to understand a wide variety of other fields in greater detail.

The reason for this is that psychology helps you to better understand the actions of others as well as your own thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. Any field that involves human beings has the potential to gain insight from psychology. So even if you aren’t planning to spend the rest of your life immersed in the field of psychology, even a brief exploration will reveal that psychology is a wide-reaching discipline. It touches on biology, evolution, genetics, chemistry, mathematics, statistics, zoology, philosophy, literature, economics, linguistics, anthropology, culture, epistemology, communication, health, disease, and just about anything else you can think of. Whether considering how your own biases could influence your research in any field, asking how you could improve your memory, or just wondering how to make a better impression in an interview, you can probably get started finding answers in the work of psychologists.

This extremely broad scope may have you wondering just what psychology is exactly, and how one subject could touch just about every aspect of your life. While some areas of research are more developed than others, psychology is the scientific study of thought and behavior and that means that just about all of human endeavor has psychological components.

So start looking around the different categories here and chances are that you can find a few topics that intrigue you. I’m always looking for more suggestions and ideas to write about here, so feel free to contact me with your thoughts!
